
K-State Heads to California for ITA Kickoff Weekend

They face Stanford first and either Florida State or Arkansas
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team heads to Palo Alto, Calif., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend with duals against No. 8 Stanford on Friday (January 27) and either Florida State or Arkansas on Saturday (January 28) at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, K-State's (1-1) dual against Stanford (1-0) on Friday afternoon is set for 3 p.m. CT. The Wildcats will then face either Florida State (3-0) or Arkansas (2-0) on Saturday at a time to be determined. The team is 2-12 all-time vs. the Razorbacks, but did win their last meeting, 4-1, at home last season on Feb. 5, 2022. They are 0-1 vs. the Seminoles, dropping a 5-1 decision in Tallahassee, Fla., on March 15, 1989.
Doubles teams will consist of freshmen Rozalia Gruszczynska and Vanesa Suarez in the number 1 position, sophomore Florentine Dekkers and junior Manami Ukita at number 2 and senior Rosanna Maffei and freshman Maria Santos at number 3. The singles lineup will include Dekkers at No. 1, Suarez at No. 2, Gruszczynska at No. 3, Maffei at No. 4, Santos at No. 5 and Ukita at No. 6.
K-State (1-1) opened the spring season last week, bouncing back from a 4-0 loss to North Florida on Jan. 21 for a 4-2 win over host and previously unbeaten Florida Atlantic on Jan. 22.
In the win over the Owls, the Wildcats earned the doubles point with wins by Gruszczynska and Suarez (6-1) at No. 1 and Maffei and Santos (6-3) at No. 3. Dekkers (6-0, 6-3), Gruszczynska (6-2, 6-4) and Maffei (6-1, 6-1) all won their singles matches in straight sets.
