Bacianskaite and Uhlin Compete in Day One of Texas Tech Open & Multis

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams competed on Thursday (January 26) in the first of three days at the Texas Tech Open & Multis in Lubbock, Texas at the Sport Performance Center.
Junior Urte Bacianskaite and sophomore Emil Uhlin competed in the pentathlon and heptathlon, respectively. Uhlin sits in 10th place with 3,026 after 4 events in the heptathlon, while Bacianskaite is in 16th place with 3,191 points after 5 events in the pentathlon.
Both Wildcats competed in a field of 16 to 18 other athletes, including fellow Big 12 schools Oklahoma, Texas and host Texas Tech and other nationally ranked programs.
Four of the seven heptathlon events occurred on Thursday, Uhlin landing in the top-three in the high jump with a new personal best height of 2.07m/6-9.50. He also recorded a new best in the 60 meter dash at 7.38 seconds.
Georgia's Kyle Garland leads the field with 3,732 points followed by Texas' Leo Neugebauer with 3,491 points. Garland and Neugebauer finished second and third, respectively, at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Bacianskaite's highlight performance occurred in the third event, the shot put, when she won with a new pentathlon personal-best throw of 14.79m/48-06.25. She also completed a new best in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.09 seconds.
Arkansas State's Camryn Newton-Smith leads the field with 4,356 points followed by Texas' Kristine Blazevica. Blazevica finished sixth in the event at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships.
The three remaining heptathlon events, 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meters, kick off the day at 11:30 a.m. CT.
The rest of the day includes field events starting at 3 p.m. CT and track events beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
