
Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Honors

K-State earns the USTFCCCA award for third straight year
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams won All-Academic Team distinctions on Thursday (January 26) from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the third straight year.
In order to qualify for All-Academic, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, which applied to 465 programs (249 women, 216 men). The women's team earned a Big 12-best 3.831 GPA, while the men's earned a 3.46 GPA.
Senior Stephen Kielhofner was the only Wildcat to also claim the title of All-Academic Athlete, along with 123 others, including 14 in the Big 12.
In order to qualify for All-Academic Athlete, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 in the NCAA Regional Championships or NCAA Championships. Kielhofner finished 22nd in the Midwest Regionals with a personal-best time of 30:06.6 on November 11 in Columbia, Mo.
Only five programs earned a higher GPA than K-State's women. Georgia State had the highest at 3.99, the Panthers earning that distinction for the second year in a row. Vanderbilt's men had the highest at 3.77.
Six Big 12 schools had both their men's and women's teams on the list, including Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech. The Kansas' men had the highest GPA at 3.61.
Northern Arizona's men were named the Scholar Team of the Year after winning the NCAA Championships and maintaining a 3.3 GPA. N.C. State was the Women's Scholar Team of the Year by winning the NCAA Championships and maintaining a 3.68 GPA.
