Wildcats Gain More Experience in ITA Central Regional

K-State will continue the fall slate at TCU starting on Oct. 27
LAWRENCE, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team competed in six extra singles matches on Sunday (Oct. 15) during the ITA Central Regional at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan.
Six Wildcats competed in one last singles match where three women were victorious and three women were defeated in high scoring matches. After four days of competition, K-State accumulated a 21-11 singles record and 5-5 in doubles matches.
Senior Aleen Quamar defeated Iowa State's Isabelle Dunlap in three sets, dropping the first one before fighting back and winning in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. Quamar was 2-1 in singles matches, starting in the main draw on Friday (Oct. 13).
Senior Manami Ukita also encountered a third set tiebreaker in her match against Maria Taranova from Nebraska. She won the first set but could not pull together a point in the second or complete a comeback, losing 6-1, 0-6, 2-10. During the tournament, Ukita was 2-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles matches, reaching the doubles round of 16 with partner sophomore Vanesa Suarez, before being defeated by an Oklahoma State duo.
Freshman Charlotte Keitel claimed a win in straight sets over Oklahoma's Romana Cisovska, 6-4, 6-3. Keitel was 5-1 in singles matches, starting competition in the qualifying round on Thursday (Oct. 12) and winning three straight before being defeated on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Maria Santos competed in a high scoring match but could not overpower Aiva Schmitz from Minnesota, losing 7-6, 7-6 (7-4). Santos was 1-2 in singles matches and 0-2 in doubles with partner Quamar.
Freshman Tereza Polakova also attempted a comeback in the second and third sets but was unsuccessful against Nebraska's Ana Carmen Zamburek, losing 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 6-10. Polakova was 4-2 over four days, also winning her first three matches.
Freshman Jillian Harkin defeated her opponent Annelise Deer of Oral Roberts in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Harkin was 3-1 in both singles and doubles matches, competing with partner Keitel in eight game pro sets.
Next up on the fall slate for K-State is the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, starting on Friday (Oct. 27) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
