Wildcats Extend Lead in the Bahamas

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Backed by a season-low round by freshman Julia Ballester Barrio, the Kansas State women's golf team increased its lead during the second round of the White Sand Invitational on Saturday at the par-72, 6,415-yard Ocean Club Golf Course.
Ballester Barrio turned in a 3-under par 69, bettering her previous season low of 71 during the season-opening Schooner Fall Classic. She was able to move 10 spots up the leaderboard into first place at even-par 144.
A native of Castellon, Spain, Ballester Barrio helped the Wildcats record the lowest round of the day at 6-over par 294. K-State will enter Sunday's final round at 11-over par 587, 13 shots ahead of second-place North Florida.
"The team did well today," head coach Stew Burke said. "We wobbled a little coming in, but ultimately we put ourselves in position through the first 12 to 14 holes. Julia shot a great round and finished with a nice birdie on her final hole. The wind was a constant factor throughout, and the ladies did a great job of sticking to the game plan and managing their mental game. You are obviously going to face adversity when the wind is blowing over 20 miles per hour, so competing right to the end is important and something we must capitalize on better tomorrow."
Ballester Barrio is one of four Wildcats to reside in the top 10 going into the final 18 holes as senior Haley Vargas and freshman Alenka Navarro are tied for second at 2-over par 146, while sophomore Noa van Beek is tied for 10th at 7-over par 151. Junior Remington Isaac is tied for 38th place at 17-over par 161.
A shotgun start to the final round will begin at 8 a.m. (ET) as the Wildcats will be paired with North Florida and Grand Canyon. Live results can be followed at www.Golfstat.com.
