
K-State Set to Host Three Meets in New Indoor Track Facility

The indoor season starts on Dec. 2 at the Bob Timmons Challenge
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Director of Track and Field Cliff Rovelto announced the 2023-24 schedule on Friday (Nov. 3), revealing the first three meets in the newly renovated indoor track facility along with the annual Ward Haylett Invitational at R.V. Christian Track.
The Wildcats will kick off the season with just one meet in 2023, Saturday, Dec. 2, in Lawrence, Kan., for the Bob Timmons Challenge. The team will be back in Lawrence to kick off the new year on Friday, Jan. 12, for the annual KU-KSU-WSU Triangular hosted by Kansas at Anschutz Pavilion.
Before hosting their first two meets of the season, the 'Cats will travel down to Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, Jan. 20, for the Texas Tech Corky Classic.
K-State invites fans to the new indoor track facility for three days of events starting on Thursday, Feb. 1, with the Austra Skujyte Women's Pentathlon and Steve Fritz Men's Heptathlon. On Friday, Feb. 2, begins the two-day DeLoss Dodds Invitational with meet participants including Miami, Missouri and Texas Tech.
The team will take a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9, before heading back to Manhattan for the last indoor home meet, Steve Miller Invitational, on Friday, Feb. 16.
For the second consecutive year the indoor Big 12 Championship will be hosted by Texas Tech at the Sport Performance Center in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24. Wrapping up the indoor season, the NCAA Championship will be held in Boston, for the first time, starting on Friday, March 8.
The Wildcats' outdoor season features three meets within the state along with three meets on the coasts. The season will start on Friday, March 15, at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., hosted by Miami.
For the third consecutive year, K-State will compete in the Emporia State Relays on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, at Francis G. Welch Stadium. The 'Cats will continue competition with in-state familiar Wichita State as they host the Shocker Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30 at Cessna Stadium.
The team will then head to the West coast for two meets, starting at the Jim Click Shootout and Combined Events with three days of events hosted by Arizona starting on Thursday, April 4, in Tucson, Ariz. After a short break the Wildcats will then compete in the four-day Mt. SAC Relays beginning on Wednesday, April 17, in Walnut, Calif.
K-State's one home meet during the season, the Ward Haylett Invitational, will be held the last weekend of April, Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, at R.V. Christian Track, with schools Missouri and Wichita State. In the last regular season meet the team will head back to Wichita for the Shocker Open on Friday, May 3.
Beginning post season competition, the outdoor Big 12 Championship will be hosted by Baylor for the first time since 2018, with three days of events starting on Friday, May 9, at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium. During that 2018 Championship, the Wildcats won the women's title for a second consecutive year with a program-high 135 points.
The NCAA West Preliminary will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., starting on Wednesday, May 22, before the season wraps up with the NCAA Championship back at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from Wednesday-Saturday, June 5-8.
Cliff Rovelto enters his 31st year at the helm, with director of operations and assistant coach Karol Rovelto in her 19th year. Throws coach Greg Watson enters his eighth year in Manhattan, along with second-year coaches Fabien Corbillon and Randy Cole and recent addition Ethan Bray working with pole vault.
