HUMBLE, Texas - The 17th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team was unable to complete a rally for the team title on Tuesday as the Wildcats finished in fourth place at 2-over par 866 following a 4-over par 292 final round at the All-American Intercollegiate.

It is the seventh top-five finish of the season for the Wildcats, the fourth most in school history and most since a school-record 10 in 2008-09.

"Overall it was a good tournament for us," said head coach Grant Robbins. "The course played pretty difficult today, and we did a good job of hanging in there and got in contention until the last few holes."

The Cats once again showed off the depth of their roster as all five members of the scoring lineup finished in the top 35 for the sixth time this season.

Tim Tillmanns had a big final day at the par-72, 7,425-yard Golf Club of Houston, firing a 3-under par 69 third round to climb 15 spots and move into the top 10.

The Cologne, Germany product tied for eighth place at 2-under par 214, capturing his fourth top-10 finish of the season and 12th of his career. This is the sixth time this season that Tillmanns has carded an under-par 54-hole score.

Three Wildcats — Cooper Schultz, Nicklaus Mason, and Will Hopkins — each finished in a tie for 21st place at 3-over par 219. The final round saw Schultz shoot a 1-over par 73, Mason a 3-over par 75, and Hopkins a 4-over par 75.

Luke O'Neill tied for 33rd place at 5-over par 221 after recording a 3-over par 75 third round.

The Wildcats finished behind three ranked opponents in No. 36 Louisville, No. 14 Tennessee, and No. 29 Ole Miss, the latter coming away with the team championship at 9-under par 855 thanks to a 7-under par 281 final round. K-State picked up ranked victories over No. 46 Houston and No. 47 LSU.

"Hats off to Ole Miss, they played a phenomenal round of golf," said Robbins. "These are great learning experiences for us. We are going head to head with some of the top programs in the country, and the experience we get being in contention is only going to help us as we get into the postseason."

Winning the individual title was Jake Hall of Tennessee at 7-under par 209.

Competing on the Member Course in a separate individual tournament, Laurenz Schiergen tied for 13th place at 9-over par 225 after a 4-over par 76 third round.

Kansas State will return to action in West Point, Mississippi, April 3-4, at the Mossy Oak Invitational, the first of two remaining regular-season events.
