Wildcats Start Big 12 Play Against West Virginia and Iowa State

Match against the Mountaineers starts at 4 p.m. CT on Friday
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team will start Big 12 Conference play against West Virginia on Friday (March 10) and Iowa State on Sunday (March 12).
K-State (2-10) meets No. 62 West Virginia (9-3) Friday in Morgantown at 4 p.m., CT at the Summit Tennis Academy.
The Wildcats hold a 7-match winning streak against the Mountaineers, defeating them at home, 4-0, in 2022. During that last match on April 3, 2022, then freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Rosanna Maffei both competed in unfinished matches against Ting-Pei Chang and Camilla Bossi, respectively.
On Sunday, the Wildcats will meet No. 10 Iowa State (10-2) in Ames, Iowa at Lifetime Fitness at 11 a.m., CT.
The Wildcats lead the series, 6-3, although the last two matches have gone in favor of the Cyclones.
Iowa State has two ranked doubles teams – No. 37 Ange Oby Kajuru and Chie Kezuka and No. 45 Thasaporn Naklo and Anna Supapitch Kuearum. The Cyclones also have two women ranked right outside the top-50 in singles, Kajuru at No. 51 and Naklo at No. 53.
Last week in the first home matches at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium, the Wildcats defeated Kansas City 4-0, then dropped a close match against Wichita State, 4-3.
Against the Shockers, Dekkers defeated Lingwei Kong, 6-4, 6-4, the first time this season a Wildcat was victorious in the No. 1 spot. Junior Manami Ukita was victorious against Theodora Chantava, 7-5, 6-0, now on a 2-match win streak after previously defeating the Roos' Joanna Cardona 6-2, 6-2.
