The junior posted the fourth-best time in school history
WALNUT, Calif. – Junior Hannah Stewart helped the Kansas State outdoor track and field teams get off to a strong start at the 63rd annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday night (April 13) by winning the women's collegiate 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:14.79 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Stewart's time of 10:14.79 not only eclipsed her previous personal-best time by nearly 5 seconds but also represented the fourth-best mark in program history. It was the best time by a Wildcat in the event since Morgan Wedekind posted a time of 9:56.26 at the 2018 NCAA West Preliminary. Less than 2 weeks ago, Stewart set her pervious best time (10:19.23) at the 95th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
In addition to Stewart, two other Wildcats finished in the top-10 in the steeplechase with freshman Grace Meyer placing seventh with a personal-best time of 10:45.57 and fellow rookie Cecilia Fisher finishing ninth with a personal-best time of 10:47.23. The freshmen now boast the eighth and ninth-best times in the event in school history. Meyer shaved more than 6 seconds off her previous-best time (10:52.01) in winning the event at the Bobcat Invitational on March 30.
On the men's side, sophomore Tommy Hazen also performed well in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, finishing fourth with a personal-best time of 9:02.61. It was the eighth-best time in program history and the best since Fernando Roman recorded a time of 8:59.9 at the 2013 Beach Invitational. Hazen cut more than 16 seconds off his previous-best time of 9:18.93 set at the 2022 Jim Click Invitational.
Senior Kerby Depenbusch capped the evening with a 17th-place finish in the men's 10,000 meters in a time of 30:16.10.
Day two of the Mt. SAC Relays begins at 1:25 p.m., CT on Friday with Delaney Wright in the preliminaries of the women's 100-meter hurdles.
