Neighbors Tabbed to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List

DALLAS, Texas – Sophomore pitcher Tyson Neighbors has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List.
The Stopper of the Year Award, established in 2005, is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I. The NCBWA will announce the finalists on Wednesday, June 7 with the winner being named on Friday, June 16 at the 2023 College World Series.
Neighbors, a sophomore from Royse City, Texas, has earned a league-high seven saves on the mound this season and ties 10th in the Wildcats' single-season records. Among the Big 12 individual leaderboards, he is the only reliever to rank in the Top 10 in total strikeouts, tying sixth alongside Oklahoma State's starter Ben Abram.
The member of the midseason watch list is 3-1 on the mound with a 0.89 ERA and has earned a win or save in nine of his last 14 outings. He is one of four relievers from the conference to make the watch list.
Neighbors was named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 10 after a dominating performance against Texas where he picked up his fifth save of the year and struck out a career-high eight.
The Wildcats (26-16, 9-6 Big 12) return to Tointon Family Stadium this weekend when they host No. 14 Texas Tech with the series opener scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday.
