MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team is set to embark on its second-straight postseason appearance, as the Wildcats will take part in the 2023 NCAA Bath Regional, Monday through Wednesday, at the par-71, 7,126-yard Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Michigan.
K-State, the No. 5 seed in the 13-team regional, is looking to advance to its first ever NCAA Championship by finishing in the top five over the 54-hole event.
"We are excited to get to Michigan for NCAA Regionals," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We don't know much about the course, but it's a Pete Dye design that will test every part of your game. We should have a good idea of what we need to do after the practice round. Then it's just a matter of having a good plan, committing to that plan and process, and letting the results take care of itself."
A pair of seniors will lead the Wildcats into battle in Will Hopkins and Tim Tillmanns, and they will be joined by sophomores Cooper Schultz and Nicklaus Mason along with junior Luke O'Neill. Sophomore Laurenz Schiergen will serve as the alternate. This will be the fifth time K-State has used this lineup with two of the previous times resulting in team victories.
Tillmanns leads the Wildcats with a 70.23 stroke average, while Hopkins is right behind at 70.29 and Schultz is third at 71.00. All six Wildcats traveling to Michigan have individual stroke averages that rank in the top 12 in school history, including the top three spots by Tillmanns, Hopkins and Schultz.
K-State's team stroke average of 281.45 is the lowest in school history by nearly seven shots per round. The Wildcats have accumulated seven top-five finishes and four team titles, both of which are tied for second in K-State history.
The Wildcats will be joined in the NCAA Bath Regional by No. 1 seed Illinois, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Oregon, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Liberty, No. 8 San Diego, No. 9 Little Rock, No. 10 and host school Michigan State, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 12 Illinois State and No. 13 Purdue Fort Wayne.
"At this stage, the competition is going to be tough," Robbins said. "However, the key for us is to stay focused on our game and play the course."
K-State will begin its first round of the regional with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) tee time off hole No. 10, and the Wildcats will be paired with Oregon and Georgia.
The 2023 NCAA Bath Regional is one of six being contested next week. The top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team in each regional will move on to the 2023 NCAA Championship, held May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
