Neighbors Receives NCBWA First Team All-American Recognition
Jun 14, 2023 | Baseball
DALLAS, Texas – K-State reliever Tyson Neighbors continues to add to his extensive resume as the sophomore right-hander was named a National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) First Team All-American, following the association's announcement Wednesday.
Neighbors, a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, picked up his second All-America honor after he received Third Team recognition earlier this month by Collegiate Baseball. Neighbors was just one of two student-athletes to be voted First Team alongside JJ Wetherholt of West Virginia.
The Royse City, Texas product is just the sixth Wildcat in school history to earn First Team honors from any organization and first since right-hander James Allen in 2011.
Neighbors' league-high 11 saves ties third in the Wildcats' single-season records alongside Daniel Edwards in 2007 and David Johnson in 1997. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 86, just nine behind weekend starter Owen Boerema, and punched out a career-high eight during his three innings in the regular-season victory over Texas.
Additionally, the sophomore went 5-1 with a 1.85 earned run average as he held opponents to hit .135 against him, issuing just 16 walks in his 48 2/3 innings.
Neighbors and Cats' third baseman Kaelen Culpepper will attend the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp in Cary, N.C., June 25-29. The duo will compete for a chance to represent the United States in a friendship series against Chinese Taipei and Japan starting June 30.
