This is the fifth straight year the Wildcats have been named an All-Academic team
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team was once again named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, with freshman Maria Santos earning Scholar Athlete accolades on Monday (July 10).
This is the Wildcats' fifth straight year being named an All-Academic team, the ninth in the last 10 years.
"Happy to receive another academic recognition for our team," head coach Jordan Smith said. "It's always great to be honored nationally with other hardworking teams and universities."
The ITA named 234 Division I women's tennis programs and 1,513 student-athletes in this year's academic awards.
Santos, from Cortegaça, Portugal, joined the Wildcats in January 2023 before spring competition. She competed in the first half of the season before sitting out with an ankle injury. She won her first singles match on Feb. 11, 6-3, 6-4, against Tulsa's Amy Leather, while also winning two doubles matches.
Twelve other Big 12 teams also claimed All-Academic honors with a total of 71 Scholar Athletes.
Last year the Wildcats had six Scholar-Athletes, including Florentine Dekkers, Ioana Gheorghita, Maria Linares, Rosanna Maffei, Anna Turco and Manami Ukita.
K-State earned the ITA Central Regional Community Service Award in June.
Requirements for scholar athlete honors include a 3.5 GPA, while the team requirement is a 3.2 GPA.
