
Wildcats Compete at World Athletics Championship

Alumna Kimberly Williamson and Laura Galvan also competed in Budapest
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Two more Wildcat alumna, Laura Galvan and Kimberly Williamson, competed in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary over the weekend.
Williamson, a high jumper for Jamaica, competed in the group B qualification round on August 25 where she jumped a season high best of just over six feet at 1.85m/6-0.75.
Galvan, competing for Mexico, ran in the women's 5,000 meters finals on Saturday where she finished 10th just under 15 minutes at 14:59.23, qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. She ran in the qualifying round on August 23 with an eighth place overall time of 14:43.94, a Mexico new national record.
Williamson competed for K-State for two seasons from 2014-16, winning the high jump during the NCAA Outdoor Championship in 2016. She is No. 3 in the K-State outdoor records when she competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championship in 2015 as a runner-up clearing a height of 1.90m/6-2.75. Williamson is also in the K-State indoor high jump records at No. 5 with a height of 1.87m/6-1.50.
Williamson's current personal best in outdoor competition is 1.93m/6-4 from the 2022 Music City Track Carnival in Nashville, Tenn. During last year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England she claimed a bronze medal at 1.92m/6-3.50.
Galvan ran for K-State from 2012-15, holding the 3,000 meter meet record in the K-State Winter Invitational at 10:03.53 in 2014. In the K-State outdoor records she sits at No. 7 in the 5,000 meters at 16:37.94. In the indoor records she is also No. 7 in the 5,000 with a time of 16:54.75.
Galvan is a HOKA sponsored athlete running also running in the 1,500, 3,000 and 10,000 meters this year. She finished in the top three in six races, including runner-up in the 5,000 meters at 15:12.61 during the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador last month.
