K-State will be joined by Duke, Iowa and Wisconsin
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team starts the fall slate on Friday (Sept. 22) when the Wildcats travel to Charlotte, N.C., for the three-day Charlotte Invitational at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Hosted by Charlotte, the tournament will include Duke, Iowa and Wisconsin, along with K-State, competing in a hidden dual format, similar to a spring season dual match.
"We're excited to see what our team is capable of this weekend," head coach Jordan Smith said. "This is a great group to work with, we've been off to a great start this fall in terms of coming together as a team."
The Wildcats could compete against Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) pre-season ranked singles and doubles opponents from the Blue Devils and Badgers.
K-State looks to start the year in team competitions with four returners—seniors Aleen Quamar and Manami Ukita and sophomores Maria Santos and Vanesa Suarez—along with four new faces—junior transfer Veronika Kulhava and freshmen Jillian Harkin, Charlotte Keitel and Tereza Polakova.
"Keys to a successful weekend for this group will be displaying great energy as a team, competitive in all our matches and being able to problem solve," Smith said. "I know their tennis will continue to progress throughout this fall season."
