Wildcats Continue Through Main Draw Competition

Three Wildcats and three doubles pairs continue in the main draw
The K-State women's tennis team started competition in the main draw on Thursday (Oct. 10) at the ITA Central Regional Championship at Leftwich Tennis Center.
Sophomores Charlotte Keitel and Tereza Polakova, senior Veronika Kulhava and all three Wildcats doubles pairs swept their opponents in the first round to advance in competition on Friday (Oct. 11).
Keitel faced Arkansas' Anet Koskel and was victorious 6-4, 6-1. Kulhava encountered a high scoring first set with Ana Carmen Zamburek from Nebraska, but quickly clinched the win at 7-5, 6-1.
Polakova battled in three sets with Kansas' Meriem Ben Ezzedine, after dropping the second set she came back in the third at 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
Sophomore Zali Morris also competed in the main draw, but fell short to Emma Staker from Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-0.
Doubles matches were played as 8 game pro sets with pairs Kulhava and Polakova, Keitel and Morris and sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav and junior Maria Santos.
Kulhava and Polakova paired up for the first time this season, going 14-11 during the 2024 spring season. The duo defeated Arkansas' Jimena Gomez and Katie Ferguson 8-5.
Keitel and Morris won 8-6 over the hosting Tigers' Sofiia Mykhailets and Clemence Thouard while Chogsomjav and Santos swept Gracie Epps and Marcela Lopez from Oklahoma State 8-3.
Chogsomjav, Santos and junior Sana Garakani continued to compete in singles extra matches with Chogsomjav sweeping Emmerson White from Saint Louis 6-0, 6-1.
Garakani was successful in three sets with Minnesota's Arina Valitova, clinching the last two sets 2-6, 6-4, 10-6. Santos fell short to Gophers' Jeselle Ante 7-5, 6-2.
Day three of competition continues on Friday with doubles action beginning at 9 a.m. CT and the singles main draw at 10 a.m.

"Very good day for us advancing in both doubles and singles. All of today's momentum started with doubles and the great play from our ladies. Which started earlier this week in practice. Glad they were able to back it up in singles and pick up solid wins along the way. It's great that we had success today but we have to be ready to repeat tomorrow. Otherwise, it doesn't become our new normal."
