K-State Begins Spring Season with Jayhawk Invitational

Wildcats will compete in singles and doubles play against Iowa State, Memphis and Kansas
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team begins the spring season with the three-day Jayhawk Invitational starting on Thursday (January 15) hosted by Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
Competing in singles and doubles matches in a hidden duel format, the Wildcats will face Iowa State, Memphis and Kansas. The team will face the Cyclones first at 10 a.m. on Thursday, followed by the Tigers on Friday and the Jayhawks on Saturday.
This will mark a second consecutive season K-State has started the spring with matches against Iowa State and Kansas while they have not faced a Memphis team since February 2022. There will also be dual matches against the Cyclones and Jayhawks to finish out the regular season in April.
From the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) final fall ranking from November 25, there are multiple ranked players. Kansas' Kyoka Kubo (no. 21), Memphis' Leonie Moeller (no. 70) and Iowa State's Maria De La Paz Alberto (no. 45) and Stanislava Shulzhenko (no. 124) who are also ranked in doubles play at no. 34.
In the Big 12 Conference preseason poll announced on January 6, the Wildcats were picked 13th with 67 points. Oklahoma State was selected first with 14 first-place votes, while UCF and Arizona State, with one first-place vote, rounded out the top-three. Last year's conference champion, Texas Tech, was picked fourth in the poll.
The Cats competed in seven fall competitions, including three ITA tournaments, the All-American Championship and Regional, Sectional Championships. During the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, freshman Martaa Chogsomjav earned the singles title after six consecutive wins.
