The K-State women's tennis team was featured in the ITA Central Regional Championship on Sunday (Oct. 13) by sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav and junior Maria Santos in the doubles semifinal round at Leftwich Tennis Center.
Â
Chogsomjav and Santos faced Tulsa's Maria Berlanga and Lily Hutchings in a best of two sets match. The duo reached a first set tiebreaker 6-7 (6-8) and kept the momentum in the second but fell short to the Hurricanes, 6-7 (6-8), 5-7.
Â
By reaching the semifinals, the pair qualifies for the ITA Central Sectional Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Nov. 7-10.

FROM THE COURTS
Head Coach Jordan Smith
On the progress the team showed this tournament…
"Maria and Maggie battled hard today and just points away from a final. Beyond proud of our Cats this week. It's great to be competing hard this early in the fall season. This week showed a lot of teams that were on a great path towards the spring season. Doubles has always been a low area for us. Having one team beat the number one ranked team in the country and another team make the semis shows we're going to be great."
