Carter Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Oct 29, 2024 | Volleyball

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State graduate outside hitter Aliyah Carter was honored for her record-breaking performances last week by being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week announced Tuesday.

It is Carter's 10th weekly conference honor of her respective career and ninth-most in league history, after she picked up a pair of offensive honors last season. She is the first Wildcat to earn a weekly Big 12 honor since Mackenzie Morris (defensive) and Aniya Clinton (rookie) on November 21.

The AVCA All-American honorable mention selection led all Big 12 players in week 9 in kills (59), kills per set (6.56), points (63.5) and points per set (7.06) on her way to breaking a pair of school records and etching her name further in the K-State record book.

Carter's 27 kills against nationally ranked Utah set the school record for most kills in a four-set match during the rally-scoring era, while she also moved to second all-time in career kills.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Carter went on to join an elite group of Wildcat greats Sunday, as she became the first player since 2011 to tally 30 or more kills in a match (Kaitlynn Pelger, 32 v. Drake).  She totaled 32 kills and a career-high 36.0 points – fourth-most all-time in K-State history – while finishing the day with nine digs and a match-leading three service aces. This season, Carter has generated 10 or more kills in all but two matches, totaling 99 in her career.

The outside hitter is one of only seven players in school history to produce a 30-kill match, while her 87 attacks shattered a rally-scoring era, five-set match program record. She is also one of only four players in the Big 12 to achieve a 30-kill match this season.

Carter's 87 swings marks just the fourth time overall in K-State history a player recorded 87 or more attacks in a match. Carter, alongside K-State Hall of Famers Dawn Cady (1996-99) and Liz Wegner (1998-2001), are the only players in program history to achieve the milestone.

Now with 1,684 career kills, Carter is one of 14 active Division I players to register over 1,680 kills in their collegiate careers.

K-State returns to the Little Apple Thursday night, as the Wildcats close the season series with West Virginia (8-12, 2-7 Big 12) at Morgan Family Arena. Thursday's match can be seen on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
