K-State Wraps Up Competition at SMU Invitational

DALLAS, Texas – The K-State women's tennis team competed in the second day of the SMU Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 5) at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

Three singles wins highlighted the competition for sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav and juniors Sana Garakani and Maria Santos.

The day started with doubles play, Garakani and senior Veronika Kulhava dropping a tiebreaker to Houston, 7-6 (8-6). Chogsomjav and Santos also lost a high scoring match, 6-4 to UT Arlington.

Garakani left Utah's Dylan Lolofie scoreless in the first set before winning 6-0, 6-4. Similarly, Santos swept Heta Nuutinen from Houston, 6-1, 6-4.

Chogsomjav claimed the third singles victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, over UT Arlington.

Kulhava battled in three sets with the Utes' Kaila Barksdale, winning the first set 7-5, before falling short 7-5, 4-6, 1-6.

Chogsomjav, Garakani and Santos all advanced to the singles finals tomorrow, but will not be competing.

K-State prepares next for the ITA Central Regional Championship starting on Wednesday (Oct. 9) in Memphis, Tenn., at Leftwich Tennis Center.
