K-State’s Burke Named Co-Head Coach for Arnold Palmer Cup
Dec 10, 2024 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head women's golf coach Stew Burke has been selected as Co-Head Coach of Team International for the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday.
This is the second-straight year Burke will coach in the event after serving as an assistant coach of Team International in 2024. The 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup will be held June 6-8 at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
"It's an honor to be selected as Co-Head Coach to lead Team International at the Arnold Palmer Cup," Burke said. "Having the opportunity to coach the best amateur players in the world against the USA in team competition is going to be a great experience. We came close to victory last year before the USA pulled away on the closing holes, but that experience will serve us well in South Carolina. It will be a much different roster with a number of the ladies turning professional to compete at LPGA Q Series, but this shows the talent on the International side as we look to reload and win back the cup."
The Arnold Palmer Cup is a Ryder Cup-style competition that features men's and women's collegiate golfers from the United States against their International counterparts. Co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the GCAA, the Arnold Palmer Cup began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Florida, in 1997. The Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world's greatest courses, including The Old Course at St. Andrews, The Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, The Honors Course, and Cherry Hills. Beginning with the 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club, the Palmer Cup is the only major tournament that features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Following a successful initial season under Burke, the Wildcats have started the 2024-25 season strong as they are ranked No. 30 in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings following four top-five finishes in the fall, including a victory in the season-opening Powercat Invitational and a pair of second-place finishes in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate and Rainbow Wahine Invitational. K-State golfers combined for four top-five finishes and 10 top-10 showing in the fall, led by Carla Bernat, who won the Powercat Invitational and finished second at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Bernat finished the fall season ranked 37th in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings.
In his initial season leading the program in 2023-24, Burke guided K-State to a program record scoring average of 290.25, four top-five finishes – including one tournament victory – and the Wildcats' highest ever placing at a conference championship when they finished third at the 2024 Big 12 Championship.
The Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation supports the Palmer Cup, which provides a platform for perpetuating Arnold Palmer's commitment to youth character development and the growth of amateur/collegiate golf. For more information, please visit www.ArnoldPalmerCup.com.
