K-State Track Finishes Competition at Tyson Invitational

K-State will compete in the last regular season meet at home on Friday, Feb. 16
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The K-State track and field teams competed in the second day of the Tyson Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Randal Tyson Indoor Track.
In large fields of competition, the Wildcats held their own with more personal bests given.
Five runners competed in the mile—for the women, seniors Sydney Burton (9th; 4:49.89), with a top-10 finish, and Hannah Stewart (11th; 4:52.77), sophomore Grace Meyer (13th; 4:55.80) with another three seconds off her previous time. For the men, junior Alex Gutierrez (19th; 4:12.13) also accomplished a personal best, junior Matthew Hauser (30th; 4:19.53) also in the race.
The middle distance crew had four competing in the 800 meters. Senior Aubry Donley (19th; 2:12.48) finished just seconds before junior Jessica Caraway (21st; 2:12.92), who ran three seconds faster than her previous set during the same meet last season. The men featured seniors Kyle Johnston (22nd; 1:53.55) and Ryan Derry (33rd; 1:55.95), Derry's first time back on the track since the Triangular on Jan. 12.
All three women competing in the shot put landed in the top-10. Junior Daisy Monie (6th; 15.76m/51-8.50) recorded her farthest throw as a Wildcat, a couple inches further than her best during her time at Houston. Junior Grace Thompson (8th; 15.62m/51-3) and senior Jaycee Schroeder (9th; 14.89m/48-10.25) were right behind.
In the men's shot put, sophomore Nate Collier (14th; 53-10.25) recorded his own new personal best, almost a foot further than his previous while competing last season for Abilene Christian.
Junior Madelyn McCabe was the only to compete in the high jump for the Wildcats, tying for 4th place with a height of 1.71m/5-7.25.
After competing in the long jump yesterday, sophomore Jhavor Bennett competed in the triple jump today with a distance of 13.36m/43-10 in 24th place.
Competing in the pole vault for her fourth straight meet, sophomore Claire Bybee cleared a height this time at 3.73m/12-2.75, placing 14th.
The 200 meter dash was the only sprinting event during day two, junior Darian Clarke competed in a field of 50 men, finishing 32nd in 21.676 seconds.
K-State will compete next in the final home and regular meet of the indoor season—in the Steve Miller Invitational on Friday (Feb. 16) at the K-State Indoor Track & Field Complex, with field events starting at 3 p.m. CT.
