Dibbini Adds Sammy Boateng to K-State Coaching Staff

MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State soccer head coach Mike Dibbini has added Sammy Boateng, an experienced collegiate coach, as an assistant coach on his staff for the 2024 season.
 
Prior to joining the K-State coaching staff, Boateng served as an assistant coach at Michigan for the previous two seasons. While in Ann Arbor, Boateng aided the squad to a 14-15-7 overall record including a 7-7-4 record in the 2023 season. He guided 3 players to All-Big selections, 16 players to Academic All-Big Ten selections, 4 players to College Sports Communication Academic All-District awards, 8 players to Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Athlete awards and 2 players to the University of Michigan Sportsmanship Awards.
 
Preceding his time with the Wolverines, Boateng was the head women's soccer coach at Western Michigan from 2019-22. During his time leading the Broncos, Boateng tabulated an overall record of 20-24-3 which included a Mid-American Conference mark of 16-13-3. He coached 1 player to Western Michigan's all-time goal scoring record of 28 career goals. He coached 3 players to MAC First Team selections, 5 players to MAC Second Team selections and 2 players to MAC All-Freshman Team. He also guided 4 players to United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region teams. 
 
During the fall of 2019, Boateng led WMU to a third-place finish in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and home field advantage during the MAC Tournament after posting a 6-4-1 league record. Numerous Broncos racked up accolades under Boateng's direction in 2019, highlighted by sophomore forward Morgan Otteson tying for the MAC lead in goals scored with eight in conference play. 
  
In the spring of 2021, Boateng guided the program through an abbreviated Covid season with a 6-2-2 MAC record which was WMU's highest league winning percentage since the 2015 season.
  
Continuing the program's legacy of academic success, Boateng had 22 student-athletes earn Academic All-MAC honors, five players earn MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete awards and a CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient.
 
Prior to his time at Western Michigan, Boateng spent the 2018 season at Boston College as an assistant coach and was then elevated to the interim head coach title. He helped the Eagles to a 14-5-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 mark for a fourth-place finish in the ACC, the program's highest league finish since 2011 and the program's first trip to the league tournament since 2015 and the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015. At BC, he coached the 2018 ACC Midfielder of the Year, Samantha Coffey.
 
After a successful playing career at Marshall University, he coached at his alma mater for a season before joining New Hampshire's women's soccer staff as an assistant coach from 2015-18. In his time at UNH, he helped the team to a regular season title in 2017, was part of the America East Coaching Staff of the Year and coached the conference's Striker of the Year, Brooke Murphy, in 2015 and 2016.
 
Boateng holds his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "C" License. In 2013, Boateng was a United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 recipient and in 2012 was named a United Soccer Coaches 2012 Next Generation Coach award recipient. He also holds his United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeper Level 1 and 2 diplomas. He is also a part of the leadership group for the United Soccer Coaches Black Advocacy Group.
 
Boateng holds a degree in biology from Marshall in 2011 and a masters in healthcare administration from Marshall in 2015. During his time in Huntington, West Virginia, Boateng left the Thundering Herd ranked third all-time in assists and served as team captain in 2009-10 and was named a Third Team All-C-USA selection.
