
Six Wildcats Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams will be represented by six athletes at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston next week (March 7-9) at the Track at new balance.
Sophomore Sharie Enoe and junior Monique Hardy will compete in women's field events, seniors Kyle Gale, Eugene Omalla, Jaimie Omalla and freshman Tavon Underwood will compete in men's track events.
Enoe will compete in the women's high jump, her personal best at 1.88m/6-2, no. 5 in the K-State all-time top-10, from the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on Jan. 12. Enoe transferred from New Mexico Highlands University where she competed in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championship last year, finishing 5th at a height of 1.75m/5-8.75.
Hardy holds the women's weight throw school record at 22.13m/72-7.25, also from the Triangular. This will be Hardy's second time to the Indoor Championship, previously competing in 2021 as a freshman for LSU where she finished 9th with a throw of 21.50m/70-6.50.
In 2017, both a K-State women's high jumper and weight thrower attended the Indoor Championship—Kim Williamson and Janee' Kassasnavoid. Williamson finished 7th in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.84m/6-0.50, Kassanavoid took 9th place with a throw of 20.71m/67-11.50.
Eugene Omalla will compete in the 400 meter dash semifinals after running his personal best time and new school record at the Big 12 Championship in the preliminary race in 45.18 seconds (altitude converted to 45.29 seconds). Eugene will be the first to compete in the men's 400 meters for K-State since Keith Black in 1997 who finished 5th in 46.44 seconds.
The school record holding men's 4x400 Relay—E. Omalla, Gale, J. Omalla and Underwood—will compete after setting their fastest time in 3:04.84 at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Feb. 3. They competed for the first time as a team in the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Jan. 20 with a time of 3:05.72 (3:06.18).
The last time K-State sent a men's relay to the Indoor Championship was 1989 with Jeff Reynolds, Tyrone Watkins, Corey King and Sean Banks with a time of 3:09.89 in 4th place. Jeff Reynolds also competed in the 400 meters that year, finishing 3rd in 46.67 seconds.
