Cats Set for Colleton River Collegiate

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a tie for fifth place its last time out at The Prestige, the Kansas State men's golf team looks to continue the momentum it gained on the west coast when it travels east to a course it has found past success in the Colleton River Collegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-72, 7,042-yard Nicklaus Course of Colleton River Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.
K-State is competing in the event for the fifth time in the last six seasons, and the Wildcats have finished in the top five in each of their previous four trips, including three top-three showings. Last season, the Wildcats placed second at 32-under par 832, tied for the ninth best 54-hole score in school history. Included in that total was a first-round score of 19-under par 269 to rank second in program history.
"This is a fantastic tournament and one that we all look forward to every year," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The Nicklaus Course at Colleton is very good, but what makes this tournament so special is the support that it gets from the Colleton River community. They go out of their way to make this a tournament an incredible experience. The course is not extremely long, but it can be very penalizing if you hit it in the wrong spots. The key to the course is the par 3s – they are all very challenging with water coming into play on most of them. If we can play those well and make some birdies on the par 5s, we will be in very good shape."
For a third-straight event to open the spring schedule, K-State will send the scoring lineup of juniors Cooper Schultz and Nicklaus Mason, senior Luke O'Neill, junior JP Roller and sophomore Alex Lindstrom. Additionally, junior Ian McCrary will compete as an individual.
Schultz leads the team with a 70.53 stroke average and is closely followed by Mason at 70.93 and O'Neill at 71.13. Schultz and Mason tied for 11th place at The Prestige, carding a 6-under par 207. It was the second best 54-hole score of Mason's career, just one shot behind his score at last year's Colleton River Collegiate when he tied for second place.
O'Neill tied for first at the Colleton River Collegiate in 2022 at 14-under par 202, which is tied for the sixth lowest 54-hole score in school history.
With their fifth-place finish in the 24-team field two weeks ago in California, the Wildcats moved up 11 spots to No. 61 in the NCAA Rankings released on Wednesday. K-State will have an opportunity to rise again with another solid showing in South Carolina as it will face four teams ranked in the top 60.
K-State will be joined at Colleton River Club by No. 36 Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, Howard, No. 46 Indiana, Iowa State, Memphis, No. 56 Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, No. 34 Missouri, Penn State and Rutgers.
A shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. (ET) begins the first two rounds on Monday, while tee times for Tuesday's final round will begin at 7:50 a.m. (ET). The Colleton River Collegiate can be viewed via Gamekast live stream by clicking here, and the broadcast features 22 total cameras on select holes, which includes play-by-play coverage on the 18th green.
