Cats With Work to Do at The Johnnie-O

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Kansas State men's golf team carded an 8-over par 584 during the first two rounds of The Johnnie-O at Sea Island on Monday, and the Wildcats enter Tuesday's final round in 13th place at the par-72, 7,060-yard Plantation Course at Sea Island Golf Club.
The Wildcats carded their highest round of the year in the morning, finishing their first 18 holes at 9-over par 297. It was the highest round since also carding a 297 during the first round of the 2023 Big 12 Championship. K-State came out of the gate strong at 4-under par early in the morning after starting on holes 14-18, but the Wildcats played the front 9 at 10-over par.
Kansas State improved in the second round with a 1-under par 287 thanks in part to a major improvement on the front 9 at 9-under par, but the Wildcats faltered on the back 9 and were only able to move up one spot on the leaderboard.
K-State's best play of the day was by junior Ian McCrary, who is competing in a separate individual tournament held five miles north at the par-71, 6,822-yard Sea Palms Golf Club. The Overland Park, Kansas, native is tied for second place in that event at 2-under par 140 thanks to a season-low score of 4-under par 67 in the second round. He begins Tuesday's final round three shots behind leader Jack Vojtko of Ohio State.
Kansas State's scoring lineup is led by junior Cooper Schultz, who is tied for 29th place at 1-over par 145, which included an even-par score in the second round.
Sophomore Alex Lindstrom had the Wildcats' best round of the day at the Plantation Course as he fired a 3-under par 69 in the second round to give him a 36-hole score of 3-over par 147. The Halmstad, Sweden, native rose 27 spots on the leaderboard during the afternoon and is tied for 49th place entering Tuesday's final round.
Junior JP Roller also made a big jump with a 2-under par 70 during the second round. The Jenks, Oklahoma, native moved up 24 spots into a tie with Lindstrom for 49th place.
Junior Nicklaus Mason went 1-over par 73 in the second round but fell during the afternoon as he is tied for 63rd place at 5-over par 149. He is two shots ahead of senior Luke O'Neill, who is tied for 73rd place at 7-over par 151. O'Neill went 5-over par 77 in the second round, but he carded an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, his second-to-last hole of the day.
Notre Dame is in first place at 19-under par 557, and the Fighting Irish moved up five spots with an 18-under par 270 in the second round. Michigan State's Ashton McCulloch is the individual leader at 14-under par 130, four shots ahead of Notre Dame's Palmer Jackson.
