
Wildcats Shine in Day One of Outdoor Competition

Day two of the meet continues at 10 a.m. on Saturday
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The K-State track and field teams started the outdoor season in the Hurricane Invitational on Friday (March 15) at Cobb Stadium hosted by Miami (Fla.).
Senior Kade McCall didn't take long to break his own hammer throw school record, achieving a new personal best in his third throw of the day at 69.33m/227-5, over a foot further than his previous.
Two women also competed in the hammer throw, both in the top-five-- junior Monique Hardy (3rd; 60.03m/196-11) and senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams (5th; 57.22m/187-9).
Four athletes competed in the discus throw, three of them for the first time as Wildcats. In the men's event was sophomore Nate Collier (5th; 53.93m/176-11) and graduate senior Andrew White (6th; 53.21m/174-7). Sophomore Tamaiah Koonce (4th; 54.47m/178-8) recorded a new personal best, junior Daisy Monie (6th; 50.45m/165-6) also competing in her first K-State outdoor meet.
In other field events, senior Jesse Pinkley finished in the top-three in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 5.10m/16-8.75, less than 2 inches from his personal best. In the men's long jump, sophomore Jhavor Bennett landed in the top-10 with a jump of 7.33m/24-0.75, 2.5 wind aided.
On the track, freshman Josphine Wanjiku finished runner-up in the women's 3,000 meters while recording her new fastest time and jumping into the K-State outdoor top-10 with a time of 9:23.88.
Multiple Wildcats ran in the 300 meter dash—in the women's race, sophomores Twaneise Johnson (6th; 38.35) and Jourdin Edwards (9th; 39.59) ran their new fastest times, junior Ludivine Aubert (10th; 39.95) in her first attempt.
In the men's event, freshmen Nen Matlock (5th; 33.11) and Tyrique Lewis (12th; 34.19) competed in their first 300 meters of the year, while junior Darian Clarke (13th; 34.32) shaved a second off his best time, senior Tim Lambert (15th; 34.77) not far behind.
Day two of the meet begins on Saturday (March 16) with the women's javelin at 10 a.m. CT, the women's 4x100 relay kicking off on the track at 12 p.m. CT.
