K-State Competes with Multiple Personal Bests in Hurricane Invitational

The Wildcats will compete next in the last weekend of March
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The K-State track and field teams finished up competition on Saturday (March 16) in the first outdoor meet of the season at the Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium hosted by Miami (Fla.).
Both on the track and in the field events K-State showed improvement, even making changes to the outdoor all-time top-10.
Six Wildcats competed in the first javelin throw of the season—for the men, freshman Riley Marx threw for 5th place with a distance of 66.73m/218-11, his new lifetime best. Seniors Joe Placek (8th; 65.46m/214-9) and Luke Ralston (13th; 52.89m/173-6) also competed, Placek just nine inches short of his best, Ralston competing for the first time since 2022.
In the women's event, senior Briana Lowe (6th; 46.47m/152-5) was seven inches away from tying her furthest throw, while junior Jessi Brummett (7th; 44.92m/147-4) threw for the first time as a Wildcat. Sophomore Saydee Tanking recorded a new personal best by nine inches at 43.10m/141-5 in 9th place.
In the shot put, four women recorded new personal bests that land them in the K-State all-time outdoor top-10. Junior Grace Thompson (3rd; 16.39m/53-9.25) sits at no. 7 with her new best by seven inches. Junior Daisy Monie (4th; 16.32m/53-6.50) is no. 8, senior Jasmine Greer (5th; 15.92m/52-2.75) keeping her spot at no. 9 and senior Jaycee Schroeder (7th; 15.63m/51-3.50) takes the no. 10 spot.
Sophomore Aaron Antoine tied for 1st in the men's high jump clearing a height of 2.14m/7-0.25.
In the women's 1,500 meters, all four Wildcats ran their fastest times—senior Sydney Burton (2nd; 4:22.37), freshman Josphine Wanjiku (5th; 4:24.19) in her first attempt and seniors Hannah Stewart (6th; 4:24.54) and Cailan Steward (14th; 4:41.40).
Other new bests on the track came from sprinters—sophomore Delaney Wright (15th; 14.64 (0.5)) in the women's 100 meter hurdles and freshman Isaac Ativie (17th; 10.75 (1.8)) in his first 100 meter dash.
In the 4x400 relays, one team for both the men and women landed in the top-five. In the men's race, freshman Nen Matlock, senior Tim Lambert, junior Darian Clarke and freshman Tyrique Lewis finished in 3rd place in 3:14.26.
The women—sophomore Twaneise Johnson, junior Jourdin Edwards, sophomore Delaney Wright and junior Ludivine Aubert landed in 4th place with a time of 3:43.45.
K-State will take next weekend off before splitting the team to compete in two events, March 29-30 in Wichita, Kan. at the Shocker Spring Invitational and the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo.
