K-State Travels South for Oklahoma, Texas Matchups

Cats play in Norman at 5 p.m. on Friday, then in Austin at 11 a.m. on Sunday
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team travels South this weekend for matches against Oklahoma on Friday (March 22) and at Texas on Sunday (March 24).

K-State (7-7, 1-5 Big 12) stops in Norman first on Friday against the #20 Oklahoma Sooners (9-4, 4-1 Big 12) at 5 p.m. CT at Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Wildcats will face the #7 Texas Longhorns (12-3, 5-0 Big 12) in Austin at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center. The match will be streamed on the Longhorn Network.

Against OU, the Cats are 0-9. Multiple Sooners show up in the singles rankings, including two in the top-50-- #34 Dana Guzman, with a 10-1 record spring record, and #39 Julia Garcia Ruiz. In doubles, two of their ranked teams have competed in conference play, #20 Guzman/Roisin Gilheany and #55 Garcia Ruiz/Zdena Safarova.

The Longhorns are 8-0 against K-State. Texas also has a stacked team in the rankings-- #23 Malaika Rapolu, 13-0 in the spring, #32 Tanya Sasnouskaya and #111 Taisiya Pachkaleva. None of Texas' ranked doubles team have competed in the last four matches.

K-State hosted Baylor and TCU last weekend, suffering losses in both matches. Against Baylor, the Wildcats tied up the score at 3-3, all three singles wins from the freshmen, Maralgoo Chogsomjav, Charlotte Keitel and Tereza Polakova, before losing the deciding match.

The Wildcats then came up short against TCU 4-1, sophomore Vanesa Suarez winning the lone point for the Cats, her first Big 12 match of the spring, defeating Jade Otway 6-2, 7-5.
