K-State Shutout First Time This Season in 4-0 Loss at Oklahoma

The Wildcats face #7 Texas on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Texas Tennis Center

NORMAN, Okla.- The K-State women's tennis team encountered their first scoreless match of the season on Friday (March 22) falling 4-0 to Oklahoma, resulting in the first losing record of the season at Headington Family Tennis Center.
 
K-State (7-8, 1-6 Big 12) dropped their fourth straight ranked match against #20 Oklahoma (10-4, 5-1 Big 12) facing four ranked Sooners in singles competition.
 
Freshmen Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Jillian Harkin, competing as a pair for the first time, were defeated by #20 ranked Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite 6-1 in the no. 3 spot. Also losing 6-1, junior Veronika Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova faced Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman in the no. 1 position.
 
Sophomores Maria Santos and Vanesa Suarez went unfinished in the no. 2 spot, down 5-2 to #55 Zdena Safarova and Julia Garcia Ruiz.
 
Polakova lost her first match of the spring, being defeated by Noel in the no. 5 spot 6-3, 6-1. While competing in four unfinished matches this season she was previously undefeated 8-0.
 
Two Wildcats fell short to ranked opponents—Suarez faced #39 Garcia Ruiz in the no. 1 position, losing 6-3, 6-1. Kulhava was also defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to Shcherbinina in the no. 3 spot.
 
Chogsomjav was leading #50 Florencia Urrutia after a high scoring first set 7-5, before going unfinished in the no. 4 position 7-5, 4-1.
 
Competing in singles competition for the first time since Texas Tech on March 9, Santos was down 6-2, 4-1 to Emma Staker in the no. 6 spot. Freshman Charlotte Keitel also didn't finish competition, facing #34 Guzman in the no. 2 position, falling short 6-1, 5-2.
 
The Wildcats continue the weekend in the South heading to Austin, Texas on Sunday (March 24) to face #7 Texas (12-3, 5-0 Big 12) at 11 a.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center.
