Wildcats Battle in Loss to No. 7 Texas

K-State hosts Cincinnati and West Virginia next week starting on Thursday
AUSTIN, Texas- The K-State women's tennis team were held scoreless for a consecutive match on Sunday (March 24) losing 4-0 versus Texas at the Texas Tennis Center.
K-State (7-9, 1-7 Big 12) kept close competition in doubles matches against #7 Texas (13-4, 6-1 Big 12) but lost steam during singles matchups.
The Wildcats showed grit in doubles matches, junior Veronika Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova in a high scoring match against Malaika Rapolu and Tanya Sasnouskaya at the no. 1 spot, losing 7-5. Sophomores Maria Santos and Vanesa Suarez were defeated in the no. 2 position by Charlotte Chavatipon and Vivian Ovrootsky 6-3.
In an unfinished close match, first time duo freshman Jillian Harkin and senior Manami Ukita went 6-5 with Taisiya Pachkaleva and Shachf Lieberman in the no. 3 spot.
Suarez was defeated by a second consecutive ranked opponent-- #32 Sasnouskaya in the no. 1 spot 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Charlotte Keitel dropped her first ranked matchup, 6-3, 6-2 to #23 Rapolu in the no. 2 position.
Freshman Maralgoo Chogsomjav lost her first match of the season to Pachkaleva, battling in a high scoring first set, 7-5, before falling short 7-5, 6-4 in the no. 4 spot. She was previously 7-0 with four unfinished matches.
Three Wildcats went unfinished in the second set-- Polakova was up against Ovrootsky in the no. 5 position at 6-3, 3-4.
In the no. 3 spot, competition went 7-5 in the first, Kulhava then going unfinished in the second set against Chavatipon, down 7-5, 3-1.
Competing in a consecutive unfinished match, Santos faced Lieberman in the no. 6 spot at a score of 6-2, 2-3.
K-State returns to Manhattan this week to host Big 12 newcomer Cincinnati (6-8, 0-6 Big 12) on Thursday (March 28) at 4 p.m. at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. On Saturday (March 30) the Cats face #71 West Virginia (13-6, 2-5 Big 12) at 12 p.m.
