K-State Showcases More Top Performances at Shocker Spring Invite

The Wildcats earned multiple top-three performances in both the field and on the track
WICHITA, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams finished up competition on Saturday (March 30) in the Shocker Spring Invitational at Cessna Stadium hosted by Wichita State.

The Wildcats continued to give top-three performances in the second day of competition, including freshman in their first outdoor meet of the season.

Senior Jaycee Schroeder won the women's shot put with a new personal best throw of 16.32m/53-6.50 while junior Grace Thompson finished runner-up at 15.66m/51-4.50. Sophomore Nate Collier won the men's event with a distance of 16.21m/53-2.25.

K-State claimed the top-two spots in the discus throw, senior Andrew White taking the win with a throw of 52.70m/172-11, while Collier competed in his second event of the day with a distance of 52.23m/171-4.

Sophomore Claire Bybee recorded a new personal best height in the pole vault, clearing a runner-up height of 4.05m/13-3. Her previous best of 3.90m/12-9.5 she cleared multiple times last year.

Other top-three results in the field events include junior Madelyn McCabe in the women's high jump (2nd; 1.67m/5-5.75), sophomore Tamaiah Koonce in the women's discus throw (3rd; 50.90m/167-0) and senior Devon Richardson won the triple jump with a distance of 14.35m/47-1.

Freshman Mikah Scott competed in two races for the first time, taking 2nd in the 100 meter dash in 11.96 seconds and 4th in the 200 meters in 24.42 seconds.

Three more women also ran in the 200 meters, sophomore Twaneise Johnson (2nd; 24.42) and juniors Ludivine Aubert (5th; 25.34) and Jourdin Edwards (6th; 25.35). Johnson and Edwards both recorded their fastest times, Aubert in her first attempt.

Three freshmen ran in the men's 200 meter dash for the first time—Nen Matlock (2nd; 21.60), Tyrique Lewis (5th; 21.91) and Isaac Ativie (7th; 21.98).

Senior Aubry Donley won the women's 800 meters in 2:13.04, junior Jessica Caraway finishing third with a time of 2:16.05. Junior Will Carroll claimed 3rd in the men's race at 1:53.37.

The Wildcats will head to the desert next week for the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. starting from Thursday to Saturday (April 4-7) at Drachman Stadium hosted by the University of Arizona.
