Wildcats Excel in 3,000 Meter Steeplechase at Mt SAC Relays

Three Wildcats shaved seconds off their time in the steeplechase event
WALNUT, Calif. – The K-State track and field teams competed in the first and second days of the Mt SAC Relays on Wednesday and Thursday (April 17-18) at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Three Wildcats competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, all shaving seconds off their personal bests. Senior Hannah Stewart finished 7th with a time of 10:09.50, five seconds off her best. Sophomore Cecilia Fisher ran her fastest by 15 seconds in 9th place at 10:24.54, jumping up one spot in the K-State all-time top-10 to no. 6. In the men's event, junior Tommy Hazen ran his fastest time of nine minutes, 9:00.59, finishing 13th.

Senior Urte Bacianskaite finished her first heptathlon of the season on Thursday, finishing 13th with 4,815 points. She recorded two top-five finishes, capturing runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 14.42m/47-3.75, and in the javelin throw with a 4th place distance of 43.94m/144-2.

Freshman Riley Marx competed in the elite men's javelin throw, along with seven other collegiate athletes, finishing 10th with a throw of 60.95m/199-11.

Three women competed in the javelin throw, all landing in the top-10. Senior Briana Lowe (8th; 43.44m/142-6) led the Wildcats, sophomore Saydee Tanking (9th; 43.12m/141-5) and junior Jessi Brummett (10th; 41.51m/136-2) not far behind.

The Cats will start day three of competition in the field with the men's long jump at 1 p.m. CT, and on the track in the women's 400 meters at 2:15 p.m. CT.
