TRINITY, Texas – The Kansas State men's golf team carded its best round of the 2024 Big 12 Championship on Tuesday with a 1-under par 287, but it wasn't enough to rise up the leaderboard during the third round as the Wildcats remain in eighth place at the par-72, 7,434-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club.
The Wildcats recorded one of only six under-par rounds on the day as they hold a two-shot lead over a tie for ninth place between Texas Tech and Kansas. K-State is three shots shy of seventh-place BYU, which fell six spots on Tuesday after holding the 36-hole lead.
Junior Cooper Schultz continues to lead the Wildcats, remaining in a tie for ninth place with a 54-hole score of 2-under par 214 after carding his second-consecutive round of 2-under par 70 on Tuesday. His day began with an eagle on the par-4 first hole and birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 6, but trouble in the middle of the round brought him closer to even par for the day.
Senior Luke O'Neill matched Schultz's round of 70 as he carded five birdies on Tuesday. A native of Connemara, Ireland, O'Neill rose 15 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 49th place at 9-over par 225.
JP Roller put together a 1-over par 73 in the third round, and he is tied for 25th place at 3-over par 219, two shots ahead of Nicklaus Mason, who is tied for 35th place following a 2-over par 74 round on Tuesday. Alex Lindstrom will enter Wednesday's final round tied for 55th place at 12-over par 228.
Texas posted a third-round score of 13-under par 275 to take a commanding 11-shot lead into the final round. Cincinnati's Ty Gingerich went 3-under par 69 during the third round to break out of a first-place tie on the individual leaderboard, and he holds a two-shot lead over Oklahoma State's Preston Stout entering the final 18 holes.
K-State's final round of the 2024 Big 12 Championship begins on Wednesday morning with tee times off No. 1 starting at 8 a.m. Live results can be followed at www.Golfstat.com.
