Schultz Completes First Day of NCAA Austin Regional
May 13, 2024 | Men's Golf
AUSTIN, Texas – A lengthy weather delay slowed the momentum down for Kansas State men's golfer Cooper Schultz, as the junior is tied for 49th place following a score of 3-over par 74 on Monday during the first round of the 2024 NCAA Austin Regional held at the par-71, 7,399-yard UT Golf Club.
After parring each of his first seven holes, Schultz and the rest of the field headed to the clubhouse as play was suspended for nearly three hours due to inclement weather in the area.
Schultz stumbled after the restart with a double-bogey on the par-3 8th hole, but he quickly rebounded with birdies on a pair of par-5s – No. 9 and No. 11 – to get back to even par. He bogeyed No. 12 and birdied the par-4 13th, but a double-bogey on the par-3 16th hole and a bogey on No. 18 led to his over-par round.
"It was really just a couple of bad swings that cost him today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He drove the ball really well and had some putts that just missed in some places that were difficult to recover from. There are a lot of holes left, and with the way he is driving it, he can put up a low number tomorrow."
Six players are tied atop the individual leaderboard with a first-round score of 4-under par 67 as 25 total players shot under par on the day. Homesteading Texas leads on the team leaderboard at 11-under par 273, two shots ahead of Notre Dame.
Schultz opens second-round play of the 2024 Austin Regional on Tuesday with a 9:42 a.m. start off the first tee. Live results can be followed at www.Golfstat.com.
