Omalla Advances to 400 Meter Quarterfinal Round

Thursday's events begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Five men represented the K-State track and field teams on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary on Wednesday (May 22) into Thursday morning at John McDonnell Field.
 
Two men ran in the 400 meter dash first round, senior Eugene Omalla clocked a time of 45.30 seconds, landing him in 5th place for a season best time. After finishing in the top-24, Omalla will race in the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Senior Kyle Gale ran a time of 46.31 seconds, finishing 28th.
 
Freshman Riley Marx finished in the top half of the men's javelin field, finishing 18th with a throw of 67.04m/219-11. Going into the third flight Marx sat in fifth place. Senior Joe Placek also competed, placing 43rd with a distance of 56.78m/186-3.
 
The men's hammer throw experienced a weather delay in the morning, leaving the event to be contested starting at 11 p.m., CT. Senior Kade McCall did not record a throw, ending his season. McCall found success as the Big 12 conference champion and recorded multiple school record distances, with his current best of 71.87m/235-9.
 
Due to anticipated weather, the schedule of events on Thursday (May 23) has been adjusted, the field events all being moved up by an hour and a half, while the track events are pushed up by three hours.
 
Junior Monique Hardy and senior Charlotte Cattermole-Williams will now start the day with the women's hammer throw at 8:30 a.m., CT. Sophomore Jourdin Edwards will race in the first round of the 400 meter hurdles at 5:20 p.m. The women's shot put will begin at 5:30 p.m., with four Wildcats competing—juniors Daisy Monie and Grace Thompson and seniors Jasmine Greer and Jaycee Schroeder.
