MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women's rowing had three athletes—Madison Koller, Neva Roenne and Catie Wood—named to the CSC Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team on Tuesday (June 25) by College Sports Communicators.
"We're proud of our athletes and appreciate that they are being recognized for their accomplishments as students," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "Our team continues to focus on being students first and each of these athletes, Koller, Roenne and Wood have worked incredibly hard to be successful in the classroom and on the water. Earning your degree and doing well in the classroom continues to be our team's top priority."
Koller, from Overland Park, Kan., is earning her master's degree in business administration with a 4.00 GPA. She previously completed a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Koller raced in the 1v8+ the entire season. The boat's season was highlighted by a silver medal at the SIRA Championship, a first-place finish at the Creighton duel to help K-State complete a sweep over the Bluejays, and multiple wins at the Hornet Invitational to open the season. Last season she was named to the All-Big 12. Koller also earned the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award in 2022. She has been recognized as an All-Bog 12 First Team member every year she has competed.
Roenne graduated with a 3.82 GPA, completing degrees in agricultural communications and journalism and agribusiness. A native of Meridan, Kan., Roenne raced in the 1v4+ throughout the season with achievements including a gold medal at the SIRA Championship, defeating Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown and finishing fifth at the Big 12 Championship. In the classroom, she also earned the Dr. Gerald Lage award in 2022, along with being named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Roenne has also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors each year of her career.
Wood, originally from Lake Quivira, Kan., graduated with a 3.82 GPA in agricultural economics. Wood raced alongside Roenne for the majority of the season in the 1v4+, collecting three wins over Sac State, St. Mary's and UC San Diego in the Hornet Invitational and racing in the Grand 'A' Final at the Sunshine State Invitational. In 2022 she was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Wood earned All-Big 12 First Team recognition each year she competed.
Requirements for nomination include a 3.50 GPA and one year of previous competition. Recognition of these athletes adds to the team's academic accomplishments of the year, highlighted by a team spring semester GPA of 3.55 and a team cumulative GPA of 3.51. The team had 15 athletes earn a perfect 4.00 GPA, and 48 athletes earn a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"It was a good year for our team. We made progress on the water and our athletes continued to uphold the high academic standard our program has achieved year after year." Sweeney said. "Our athletes have a lot to be proud of and we are looking forward to seeing what we are able to accomplish next year."
