Five Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For a fifth-consecutive season, the Kansas State women's golf team had its entire eligible roster earn Academic All-Big 12 honors and the Wildcats led all women's golf programs with five accolades, as the Big 12 announced its spring academic honors on Tuesday.Â
Led by senior Haley Vargas, who was nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, K-State had four players on the first team as Vargas was joined by junior Remington Isaac, senior Gabriela McNelly and sophomore Noa van Beek. Additionally, senior Napua Glossner picked up second-team accolades.
The five Academic All-Big 12 honors come on the heels of a majority of the roster being named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars Team on Monday.
Vargas closed out her five-year career by being a First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree for the fourth time in her career. Glossner and McNelly each earned the honor for a third-straight season, while Isaac picked up the honor for a second-straight campaign but was able to improve to the first team after being a second-team honoree a year ago. van Beek earned Academic All-Big 12 honors in the first year she was eligible for the award, while she was also named to this year's All-American Scholars Team in addition to being an Academic All-District performer by College Sports Communicators.
There were 51 total Big 12 women's golfers included on the Academic All-Big 12 teams. First-team members consisted of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
