MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday with five Wildcats earning Scholar Athlete accolades.
The five Cats named Scholar Athletes include Jillian Harkin, Charlotte Keitel, Veronika Kulhava, Tereza Polakova and Maria Santos.
This is the sixth straight year the K-State team has been named All-Academic, with Santos earning Scholar Athlete honors for a consecutive year.
"Always going to be impressed with this team's ability to be successful in the classroom while being competitive on the court," head coach Jordan Smith said. "Well deserved for the team award plus those that received individual recognition as well."
12 more Big 12 Conference schools were also named All-Academic Teams for a combined 67 Scholar Athletes, with Baylor, Cincinnati, Texas Tech and West Virginia all tied for the most with seven.
"Also, thankful for the support they receive from [academic counselor] Caitlyn Claussen and all of their individual advisors on campus." Smith said.
In May, Kulhava and Santos also earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Requirements for a program to be named an All-Academic Team include a team GPA of 3.20 or higher while a Scholar Athlete must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale.
