Two Former Wildcats Compete at 2024 Paris Olympics

Both Galvan and Omalla will start competition on Friday, August 2

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams will have two alumni competing on the track at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Laura Galvan for Mexico and Eugene Omalla for The Netherlands.
 
Galvan, a 2015 alum, will run in her second Olympics in the 5,000 meters. Round 1 of the women's 5,000 meters will take place on Friday, August 2 at 11:10 a.m. CT, at the Stade de France. The final race is set for Monday, August 5 at 2:15 p.m. CT.
 
Galvan previously competed in two events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 5,000 meters, finishing 11th with a then-Mexico national record time of 15:00.16, as well as the 1,500 meters, where she placed 12th in the first heat in 4:08.15.
 
Omalla qualified for The Netherlands relay teams as an extra leg. Round 1 of the 4x400 mixed relay, a two man and two woman team, is August 2 at 12:10 p.m. CT with the final race on Saturday, August 3 at 1:55 p.m. CT.
 
During the last Olympics, Tokyo 2020, Galvan and two other Wildcats represented their home countries. 2024 graduate Shalysa Wray competed in the 400 meter dash for the Cayman Islands and Shadae Lawrence (2015-18) competed in the discus throw for Jamaica.
 
The 2024 Paris Olympics continue through Sunday, August 11, with athletics events starting on August 1 with the men's and women's 20km race walk.
