Jan 16, 2025 | Track & Field
Competition against in-state schools begins at 12 p.m. on Friday
The K-State track and field teams begin the 2025 indoor season on Friday (Jan. 17) hosting the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, for the first time since 2018, at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track. Admission is free and open to the public.
Competing against Kansas and Wichita State, the Triangular will begin at 12 p.m., with four field events—men's weight throw, women's long jump, men's pole vault and men's and women's high jump. Track events will start at 2:30 p.m., with the women's 60 meter hurdles.
The Wildcats, Jayhawks and Shockers will compete in 31 events with points awarded to the subsequent highest finishers, the school with the most points in the end named the winner. Last season K-State finished 2nd with 228 points, 17.5 points behind 1st place Kansas at 245.5 points while WSU finished in 3rd with 190.5 points.
At the last Triangular, senior Monique Hardy broke the women's weight throw school and meet record with a throw of 22.13 meters (72'7.25").
On Saturday (Jan. 18), K-State welcomes seven teams, including Cloud County Community College and Kansas, to use the facility for the inaugural Thane Baker Invitational. The men's shot put will begin the day at 10:30 a.m.
In the first season under Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Travis Geopfert, the team boasts veteran Wildcats as well as new faces, including nine student athletes beginning a new journey and new year in Manhattan.
Junior Sharie Enoe returns to raise the bar in the high jump, currently holding the no. 5 spot in the K-State women's records at 1.88 meters (6'2"). Senior Tesia Thomas, a transfer from Penn State, looks to jump into action for the Wildcats in the long and triple jump. After missing last season due to injury, senior James Ezeonu is expected to make an impact on the track. Senior Kade McCall returns for a final indoor season, previously breaking his own weight throw school record three times last year.
