K-State in First After Day One of Powercat Invitational
Oct 20, 2025 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Led by senior Noa van Beek and sophomore Nanami Nakashima, the Kansas State women's golf team is in first place toward the end of second-round play on Monday of the Powercat Invitational held at the par-72, 6,446-yard Colbert Hills Golf Club.
Â
K-State holds a 20-shot lead at 8-over par with some of the field needing to complete one or two second-round holes. The 16-team field completed the first round in the morning, but second-round play was suspended at 6:45 p.m., due to darkness.
Â
The Wildcats recorded a first-round score of 4-under par 284 and are 12-over par in the second round. K-State was the only team to shoot under par in the first round, but scores among the entire field rose in the afternoon as wind gusts reached 25 miles per hour.
Â
"Today was a battle. The ladies hung in there and are closing out the second round well," head coach Stew Burke said. "We have to get off to a better start in tomorrow's third round than we did this afternoon. It is great to see Nanami and Noa out front. It is a chance for them to go head to head to try to close out their first collegiate wins. Tomorrow will need to be a total team effort, and we will need to stick to the plan to close out the fall on a high note."
Â
A native of Oene, Netherlands, van Beek is at 3-under par through 34 holes of play as she will complete Nos. 3 and 4 on Tuesday morning. She went 1-under par 71 during the first round, while she is 2-under par through 16 holes in the second round. van Beek is in search of a third-straight top-10 finish to close out the fall season.
Â
Nakashima, a product of Kani, Japan, is also at 3-under par after turning in a score of 3-under par 69 in the first round before a completed even-par second round. In the morning, Nakashima went bogey free and 4-under par through her first 14 holes. She carried that momentum into the first hole of the second round with an eagle but bogeyed each of the next five holes. However, Nakashima was able to right the ship on the back 9 with five birdies and two bogeys.
Â
Sophomore Kelsey Chen is tied for sixth place at 6-over par with completed rounds of 2-under par 70 and 8-over par 80. She had five birdies in a stretch of 10 bogey-free opening holes to start the event.
Â
Freshman Keen Visavapattamawan is tied for 16th place at 9-over par, carding a 3-over par 75 in the morning and a completed second-round score of 6-over par 78. Another freshman, Casey Kang, is tied for 24th place at 12-over par. She had a first-round score of 2-over par 74 and concluded the second round at 10-over par 82.
Â
Playing as individuals, junior Juila Ballester Barrio and freshman Stalee Fields are tied for 28th place at 13-over par. Junior Alenka Navarro is tied for 39th place at 15-over par.
Â
The entire field will begin play on Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m., with players either concluding second-round play or beginning the final round. Pairings will remain the same with the Wildcat scoring lineup teeing off on Nos. 1-5 along with Cincinnati, Wichita State and Bowling Green.
Â
Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd. The event is free and open to the walking public.
