Wildcats Record Third Straight Win in 4-2 Victory Over West Virginia

K-State has a winning record again for the first time since early February
MORGANTOWN, W.V.- The K-State women's tennis team is back in the win column on Sunday (March 9) after three straight wins and another road win, 4-2 over West Virginia, at the Summit Tennis Academy.

K-State (6-5, 3-1 Big 12) dropped the doubles point for a second consecutive match but took control in singles matches, only dropping the ball on one court against West Virginia (6-9, 0-4 Big 12).

Senior Veronika Kulhava and junior Maria Santos bounced back as a pair for their third win in conference play, in the no. 3 spot they defeated Maja Dodik and Lyla Byers 6-4.

Sophomores Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel tried to battle back against Millie Haagensen and Julie Bousseau, before losing 4-6 in the no. 1 position. Junior Sana Garakani and freshman Zhanel Rustemova dropped another match in doubles play, 2-6, to Michaela Kucharova and Laura Villanueva Morillo in the no. 2 spot.

Kulhava scored the winning point for the Wildcats in the no. 5 position, sweeping Morillo in low scoring sets, 6-1, 6-2

Keitel was victorious in back-to-back matches for the first time this spring, winning with similar scoring sets over Bousseau in the no. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Santos was successful in straight sets over Dodik, 6-4, 6-3, in the no. 4 position.

Chogsomjav encountered a consecutive three-set match in the no. 3 spot, this time against Kucharova. She took control in the first set 6-2 but slipped in the second before reclaiming her composure for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win.

Garakani competed in singles play for the first time since February 23, facing Byers in the no. 6 position. She was down in the first set 2-6 before the match went unfinished in the second at 2-6, 1-1.

Rustemova battled in the no. 1 spot again, attempting to make a comeback versus Haagensen but could not find her footing at 5-7, 4-6.

K-State will return to Manhattan on Friday (March 14) for the lone match up of the weekend against #33 Oklahoma State (8-6, 2-1 Big 12) at 4 p.m.
