K-State Climbs Two Spots During Final Round

WEST POINT, Miss. – Under difficult playing conditions, the Kansas State men's golf team was able to make a small move up the leaderboard during Tuesday's final round of the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship held at the par-72, 7,088-yard Old Waverly Golf Club.

K-State shot a 13-over par 301 in the final round, finishing in a tie for ninth place with a 54-hole score of 25-over par 889.

"It was a disappointing week," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The bottom line is we just didn't play well. Yesterday there were too many big numbers and three-putts, which made it very difficult to get any momentum. The conditions today were much tougher. I thought we competed well today. The effort was there, but we just were unable to execute the shots when we needed to. These guys are resilient. We will learn from this, get back to work and prepare hard for the conference championship next week."

Freshman Erik Sabelström Holmberg led the Wildcats on Tuesday by carding a score of 1-over par 73, moving 13 spots up the leaderboard to tie for 39th at 8-over par 224. Starting on No. 10, the Stockholm, Sweden, product went 2-over par over his first nine holes but stabilized on the second nine with a bogey-free 1-under par mark.

Senior Nicklaus Mason tied with Sabelström Holmberg at 8-over par following a final-round total of 5-over par 77. Another senior, Cooper Schultz, finished two shots back and in a tie for 43rd place at 10-over par 226. The Andover, Kansas, product moved up nine spots on the leaderboard during the final round after posting a score of 3-over par 75.

Junior Alex Lindstrom fell 18 spots during the final round as he tied for 45th place at 11-over par 227. Senior Kobe Valociek, who missed last week's event due to injury, battled to a score of 12-over par 228 and finished in a tie for 52nd place as he recorded a 4-over par score in all three rounds.

Playing as an individual, senior Ian McCrary tied for 42nd place at 9-over par 225.

Although it shot over par during the final round, third-ranked Ole Miss ran away with the team championship at 39-under par 825, topping second-place Alabama by 33 shots. The Rebels had each of the top three players on the individual leaderboard, including a tie for first place between Tom Fischer and Michael La Sasso at 13-under par 203.

K-State competes in the 2025 Big 12 Championship – a 72-hole event – next Tuesday through Thursday at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
