MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State shortstop Maximus Martin was featured on the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List, following the College Baseball Foundation's announcement Friday afternoon.

The top 100 shortstops across the country, including seven from the Big 12 Conference, were announced to the CBF's Watch List. The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

In addition to Martin, five other shortstops on the watch list have earned distinction as Brooks Wallace Award weekly honorees: Wehiwa Aloy (Arkansas), Aiva Arquette (Oregon State), Core Jackson (Utah), Matt King (Arizona State), and Alex Lodise (Florida State).

Martin leads the Cats' offense with a slash line of .333/.415/.698, recording 11 doubles and 12 home runs. His .698 slugging percentage and 12 home runs both rank second in the league.

This honor marks the fourth national recognition the junior has earned this season. He was named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List and has received both the Golden Spikes Award National Player of the Week and NCBWA Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Week honors. Martin has also been recognized as the Big 12 Player of the Week and Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week.

On the year, Martin has tallied 12 multi-hit games and 12 games with multiple RBIs. In K-State's 17-5 run-rule victory over William & Mary (March 8), Martin launched a grand slam and finished with eight RBI, becoming the first player since 2018 to drive in eight runs in a single game.

The Wildcats (23-14, 10-5 Big 12) take on KU (28-10, 9-6 Big 12) this weekend in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown, starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence.
