Wildcats Finish Seventh in NCAA Bremerton Regional

May 14, 2025 | Men's Golf

BREMERTON, Wash. – A final-round score of 3-under par 285 on Wednesday was not enough for the Kansas State men's golf team to extend its season as the Wildcats finished in seventh place at the 2025 NCAA Bremerton Regional held the par-72, 7,167-yard Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

K-State finished with a 54-hole score of 3-over par 867, just three shots shy of the fifth and final qualifying spot for the 2025 NCAA Championship.

"I am really proud of our guys," head coach Grant Robbins said. "They competed and gave it everything they had. I thought we showed some nerves starting out, but they settled in and played really well for the last 14 or so holes. It really stings to come up three shots short because I really wanted it for our seniors. But, overall, it was a good year, and there are a lot of things we can look back on and be very proud of."

The Wildcats posted the sixth-best score among the 14-team field in the final round, but South Florida fired the round of the day at 10-under par to rise from seventh into the top five. K-State's finish to the 2024-25 season was eerily similar to two years ago in the 2023 NCAA Bath (Mich.) Regional when it also finished three shots shy of qualifying for its first ever NCAA Championship.

K-State was led in the regional by senior Cooper Schultz, who tied for 16th place at 1-under par 215, his best 54-hole score in a regional. The senior from Andover, Kansas, finished his career with a 71.99 scoring average to rank second in program history.

K-State's round of the day was turned in by freshman Erik Sabelström Holmberg, who posted a score of 2-under par 70. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Sabelström Holmberg tied for his second-best round of the season, only to be outdone by a 69 during the final round of the season-opening Southern Dunes Collegiate. He improved 12 spots during the final round to finish in 51st place at 8-over par 224.

Nicklaus Mason also finished in red numbers during the final round with a score of 1-under par 70. His day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 6th hole en route to a tie for 43rd place at 6-over par 222.

A senior from Shawnee, Kansas, Mason finished his career ranking fourth in school history with a 72.30 scoring average.

Senior Kobe Valociek ended his collegiate career with a round of even-par 72, which included a hole-in-one on the 188-yard 16th, his seventh hole of the day. Valociek then parred every hole on the front 9 to close out his round. The Peoria, Arizona, native tied for 21st place at 1-over par 217.

Another senior, Ian McCrary, also turned in an even-par score in his final collegiate round with four birdies on the day. The Overland Park, Kansas, product rose two spots during the final round to tie for 33rd place with a 54-hole score of 4-over par 220.

Florida posted a winning score of 28-under par 836 to hold off Arizona State, which finished three shots back. Utah's Braxton Watts took home medalist honors and advanced to the NCAA Championship as an individual with a three-round score of 12-under par 204.
