Fifth Wildcat Qualifies for NCAA Championship Prior to Final Day of Preliminary

Prabhu will be the youngest athlete competing for K-State as a freshman
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Freshman Selva Prabhu finished runner-up in the men's triple jump on Friday (May 30) to clinch a qualifying Championship spot during the NCAA West Preliminary at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

The men wrapped up competition on the third day of events prior to the NCAA Championship on June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., as five Wildcats have now qualified for the final meet of the season; Prabhu, sophomore Riley Marx and seniors Monique Hardy, Shalom Olotu and Emil Uhlin.

Prabhu recorded a big personal best in just his third competition as a Wildcat, with a leap of 16.49m (54' 1 ¼"). His mark is now no. 3 in the K-State outdoor all-time records, his furthest by more than a foot and a half. Prabhu will be the second jumper to join the K-State squad heading to Nationals, joining Olotu in the women's long jump.

Junior Jhavor Bennett also competed in the triple jump, finishing 19th with a jump of 15.76m (51' 8 ½"). Two men also competed in the discus throw, junior Gary Moore Jr. claiming 25th place with a throw of 55.83m (183' 2"), two inches shy of his personal best, as fellow junior Nate Collier landed at 51.69m (169' 7") in 43rd place.

Senior Tommy Hazen competed in his second consecutive 3,000 meter steeplechase in the West Preliminary, this time finishing with a time of 9:07.85 with a 34th place finish.

The final day on Saturday (May 31) includes performances in three women's field events, starting with junior Tamaiah Koonce in the discus throw at 1 p.m., CT, followed by Olotu, in her second event, and sophomore Taylor Mayo in the triple jump at 2:30 p.m. and junior Sharie Enoe in the high jump at 3:30 p.m.

Juniors Safhia Hinds and Jourdin Edwards and senior Ludivine Aubert will race in the 400 meters hurdles quarterfinal race at 7:25 p.m. as top-24 place finishers in the first round on Thursday. The final day of competition can be streamed on ESPN+ starting with the track events.
