Chogsomjav Advances to Singles Qualifying Bracket at ITA All-American

CARY, N.C.- Junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav was successful in three singles matches over two days at the ITA All-American Championship at Cary Tennis Park, advancing to the next bracket on Sunday (September 21).

On Sunday afternoon, Chogsomjav was victorious in straight sets over Kady Tannenbaum from Wake Forest. After a close first set tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-2), she completed the sweep with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 score. Chogsomjav now enters the qualifying bracket with one match on Monday (September 22) against Gianna Oboniye from Mississippi State.

Chogsomjav had previously encountered a three-set match earlier in the day against Raphelle Leroux from UCSB. After dropping the first set she came back in a dominant second set tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-1) and secured the win in the final set at 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2. In her first match of the tournament on Saturday, Chogsomjav swept Texas' Mathilde Ngijol Carre 6-4, 6-1.

Over the weekend Chogsomjav also competed in two doubles matches with partner sophomore Zhanel Rustemova in the main bracket. Playing these matches to two sets, on Saturday the duo split the two with a 6-3, 3-6 score against Mia Slama and Lavinia Tanasie from North Carolina State before coming out on top in a third set tiebreaker, 10-6.

On Sunday afternoon the Cats could not quite complete the rally in another third set tiebreaker against Harvard's Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff. After dropping the first set they battled back in the second at 7-6 (7-3) but fell short in the final stretch at 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 3-10.
