Rustemova went unfinished against Neilson-Gatenby in the no. 5 position, winning the first set but down in the last for a 6-4, 4-6, 1-4 finish.

FROM THE COURT
Head Coach Jordan Smith
On expectations coming into the first dual match…
"To be honest, I didn't know what to expect coming into this match. A week ago we couldn't field enough players to play a match. Today, we're going the distance with a top-20 team in our first match of the season. So definitely mixed feelings of being extremely proud and gutted at the same time. Overall, this team was resilient and do all they could to win today. Can't ask for more as a coach."
On improvements that can be made before the next matches…
"Definitely have to work on some areas before next week involving emotional reactions and serving. None of these things are out of this team's ability. So I expect to see improvements quickly. We're really young with six of our nine players being freshmen so I definitely believe more experience will help us over time. Time to work even harder for next week."
