Preview // K-State Hosts 8/9 Iowa State on Legends Weekend
Jan 31, 2026 | Men's Basketball
The Wildcats and Cyclones will face off on Sunday at 1 pm CT on FOX.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State (10-11, 1-7 Big 12) opens the month of February with Legends Weekend and a visit from No. 8/9 Iowa State (19-2, 6-2 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum. Tip is set for 1:01 p.m. and will air nationally on FOX with Noah Reed and Miles Simon on the call.
There are a number of events planned for Legends weekend, including a pregame tribute for
legendary head coach Jack Hartman, who was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame this past November. The Wildcats will wear their lavender two-tone uniforms (lavender jerseys and purple shorts) in Sunday's game, which were first worn by Hartman's teams in the 1970s.
Injuries continue to plague the Wildcats, who are off to their second-worst Big 12 start and the worst since 2020-21. The team played just 7 players in Tuesday's 59-54 loss at West Virginia, as starters Abdi Bashir Jr. and Khamari McGriff missed their third consecutive game, while a third starter - Elias Rapieque - was out for his fifth game in a row.
No. 8/9 Iowa State is off to its best start in school history with a 19-2 record, including a 6-2 mark in Big 12 play. The Cyclones have shaken off back-to-back road losses at Kansas and Cincinnati with 3 consecutive wins, including 30-point victories over UCF and Colorado. The team has a top-25 rated scoring offense (86.1 ppg./23rd) and scoring defense (65.0 ppg./15th) while is ranked among the top-20 in 10 other stat categories. Three players are scoring in double figures led by junior Milan Momcilovic (18.6 ppg.), who leads the nation in 3-point percentage (53.9) and 3-pointers (83).
K-State and Iowa State will meet 243rd time on Sunday afternoon in a series that dates to 1909. The 242 meetings are the second-most against one opponent. The schools will meet just once this season, snapping a streak of 104 consecutive seasons of playing a home-and-home series.

LAST TIME OUT
- Senior Treysen Eaglestaff came through in the clutch, scoring 8 of his 12 points in the last 3 minutes to help West Virginia rally past Kansas State, 59-54, on Tuesday night before 10,809 fans at Hope Coliseum.
- The win extended West Virginia's home court winning streak to 16 games, as the Mountaineers (14-7, 5-3 Big 12) remained perfect at home under first-year head coach Ross Hodge. They also snapped a 3-game losing streak to the Wildcats, earning their first win since 2023.
- Despite Eaglestaff's heroics, K-State had 2 chances to tie the game in the last 22 seconds. Following a missed free throw by senior Honor Huff, junior P.J. Haggerty drove to the basket but his layup with blocked out of bounds with 14.5 seconds left. Haggerty then received the inbound pass, but his 3-pointer fell short with 10 seconds.
- Huff made amends for his earlier free throw miss by icing the game with a pair of free throws to make it 59-54 with 8 seconds left. He led all scorers with 17 points to go with a game-tying 5 assists.
- Haggerty paced three Wildcats in double figures with 16 points, all of which came in the second half, while sophomore David Castillo and senior Nate Johnson added 15 and 13 points, respectively. Johnson added 8 rebounds and team-highs in assists (4) and steals (3).
- After trailing by 10 points in the early moments of the second half, back-to-back 3-pointers by Haggerty and Johnson ignited an 8-0 run that brought K-State to within 36-34 with 13:23 left. The Mountaineers went back ahead 45-41 near the midway point before another 8-0 run carried the Wildcats to a 49-45 lead with 4:30 to play.
- Eaglestaff's run to end the game started on a putback with 3:17 to play that ended a more than 7-minute scoring drought. He followed with a 3-pointer that gave WVU the lead for good with 2:08 left. After each team posted a 3-pointer, he made his biggest play of the night with 43 seconds remaining as he followed his own shot with a layup before finishing the 3-point play to make it 57-52.
